President Biden moved the deadline for states to make all adults eligible to get a coronavirus vaccine to April 19. To encourage employees to be vaccinated, American Airlines announced an incentive program that applies to all American Airlines Group employees based in the United States, including those at Envoy and Piedmont.
It’s been a year since the global COVID-19 pandemic began turning our industry and our lives upside down, and CWA airline agents have been on the front lines at stations across the country. Recently we had a chance to talk to some American and Piedmont agents who have been in the trenches, dealing with COVID-19 and other health and safety issues.
A total of 250 passenger service agents received scholarships from the CWA National Education and Training Trust CWA/NETT) in the past few months. The agents took advantage of the funds to pursue new knowledge and brush up on valuable skills.

Passenger Service Agents at American Airlines Subsidiary Take Concerns About Poverty Wages to the National Stage

New survey of Envoy Air agents reveals widespread reliance on public assistance, extreme measures used to get by like selling plasma. Elected officials call on American to raise pay as agents go directly to passengers and taxpayers with nationwide advertisements, events at social services offices.

Five days a week, Takisha Gower leaves her Euless home for her 6 a.m. shift as a passenger service agent at DFW International Airport, where she’ll spend the next several hours boarding flights, helping people who’ve missed connections and, occasionally, talking down a customer who’s having a really bad day.

Although the passengers bought their tickets through American Airlines, Gower works for the company’s Envoy Air subsidiary, which operates regional flights for the Fort Worth-based carrier under the American Eagle brand.

Over 80 members of Congress sent a letter to American Airlines CEO Doug Parker on February 8 urging him to “conclude your collective bargaining negotiations and ensure that all of your employees can earn a living wage.”
On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, almost 200 workers joined in solidarity at Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix, Arizona, to demand a fair contract for all passenger service agents who work for American Airlines under the company’s Piedmont and Envoy subsidiaries.
While CWA is pleased that American is paying employees a one-time $1,000 bonus, it falls short of the permanent wage increase that working families were promised as part of the Republican corporate tax cut.
Last Wednesday, Envoy Airline agents across the United States marched and spoke out in support of a living wage at Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami International airports. The agents are currently negotiating their first contract with Envoy.
